Gold American Eagle Coin

gold american eagle coin obverse The world's most popular gold bullion coin

First introduced in 1986, US Gold Eagles are the number one gold bullion coin choice among investors world wide.

Design
After careful consideration, the United States mint decided to copy the design of the $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin for the obverse of its new Gold American Eagle coin. The $20 Saint-Gaudens was first minted in 1907 and remained in general circulation until 1933. It was designed to evoke awe like the ancient Greek and Roman coins.

The design on the reverse of the Gold Eagle (pictured below, left) captures a bald eagle swooping into a nest holding its family, symbolizing many classic American concepts. The Miley Busiek design is surrounded by other information, including the amount of gold, its purity, and the stated face value of the US Eagle.

Government Guaranteegold american eagle reverse
The Gold American Eagle coin maintains a unique advantage over most other gold bullion coins - the United States government guarantees its gold content, weight, and purity. For this reason, Gold Eagles can easily be bought and sold almost anywhere throughout the world, making these coins among the most commonly traded gold bullion coins on the market.

Minting Information

Gold American Eagle coins are made only from gold mined in the United States. The coins are minted using 24-karat gold plus small amounts of alloy to ensure a minimum of scratching and marring. Each one-ounce Gold American Eagle coin contains one full ounce of pure gold.
